Its a definate 5/5, starting with one of their best songs, Battery, and ending with their most influential song to date: Damage, Inc.īattery - 10/10 - Amazing song, from beginning to end. If you take the time to listen to all of the bands material from beginning to end then compare the statements made by looking at the lyrics you'll see what I have all along (for the past 25 years that is).this is simply one of the bands best musically and lyrically written releases by far! My best example is a few lines from the song "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)".'No more can they keep us in, l isten dammit, we will win! They see it right, they see it well but they think this saves us from our hell. The guitar work on this blows you away! The lyrics are profound and makes statements that really were lost after the bands self titled "Black Album" period. This was the era when Metallica was still producing breakthrough heavy metal music. The striding "Battery," the darkly lit "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)," as well as the complex instrumental, "Orion," all gave powerful testament to their ever-developing skill and vision. Their ever-lengthening arrangements (three songs came in at over eight minutes), bolstered by the precise snap of Hetfield's vocals, testified to their undeniable power. A constant touring unit by th is point, their combination of light and dark and their deft staccato delivery, especially on the title track, came brusquely through. Metallica's irresistible rise to the top continued with this enigmatic 1986 album. Recorded at Sweet Silence Studios, Copenhagen, Denmark from September through December, 1985.
